Sacha de Leeuw

Lettercutter Sacha de Leeuw – De Steentypograaf – has been carving hand drawn lettering in natural stone since she left the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague in 1994 where she studied Graphic and Typographic Design.

She specialises in memorials, plaques and art projects in slate, limestone and marble, mainly from European quarries. She has also dealt with the research and reconstruction of (partly) vanished or weathered lettering in natural stone.

Sacha’s inspiration is contemporary and historic lettering, typeface design, calligraphy, typography and text. Her aim is to shape stones, letters and texts towards individuality and combine them to form more than the sum of their parts.
