Pieter Boudens
[1955–2025]
Pieter described himself as ‘a three legged letter carver’, one foot in the English stone lettering tradition (through John Skelton and David Kindersley), a second in Germany (he started his lettering study under Sepp Jakob) and a third in France through his intense contacts with Jean-Claude Lamborot. All these influences were combined.
In 1979 Pieter started as the first letter carver of the ‘new style’ in Belgium*, and paved the way for younger generations with an interest for lettering in stone.
*in contrast with our traditional stonemasons who also apply letters, but without a special interest for the subtleties of their design and composition.
