Martin Cook

I come from a family of carvers dating back to 1730. I originally did an apprenticeship in monumental masonry in Hertfordshire. I then moved on to work for Neil Simmons at the Department of the Environment Carving Studio in London.

I set up Martin Cook Studio in 1986. I specialise in hand drawn and carved lettering and relief carving, mainly in stone but also wood for a variety of applications including architectural, monumental and garden artworks. I have carved thousands of commissions all over the World.

I collaborated with Ian Hamilton Finlay on several projects. I have exhibited widely including The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh. In 2000 I was commissioned by Sir Norman Foster to design and carve the inscriptions to The Great Court of The British Museum. I have also designed three show gardens for Chelsea Flower Show, winning 2 gold and one silver/gilt medal.
