I’m a calligrapher and lettering artist who was was lured into calligraphy by learning italic handwriting at school at an early age. My later training in graphics and typography continues to be a strong and abiding influence on my work with pen, brush and drawn lettering.

I work with designers and ad agencies providing original hand-lettering for commercial projects; produce pieces for exhibition and sale, as well as accepting both public and private commissions.

I’ve had four books published, two on traditional calligraphy and illumination (one of which has been translated into 6 languages), the others have a more contemporary slant on lettering.

I’m intrigued by contemporary ways of using gilding, and inventing new letterforms continues to fascinate. I lead workshops in the UK and abroad, aiming to encouraging students towards a more experimental approach to lettering.
