Liesbet Boudens

Growing up with a father-calligrapher, the step towards becoming a lettering artist seemed almost obvious, but it were the three years in painting class that shaped my expressive language.

I grew away from traditional calligraphic forms and the fluent calligraphic line. Writing the letter shapes made place for the process of drawing them.

Standardized sizes make me feel fenced in, I prefer bigger letters (on canvas, walls and panels) for the more dynamic and intense physical lettering game they offer.

I am now retired, and live and work as a lettering artist in Bruges, and I teach lettering workshops in Belgium and abroad.
