Julia Vance

In her WORD-SCULPTURES Julia Vance playfully finds the under, the behind or even the inside of a word She changes up for down, uses different languages, moves in and out of legibility and uses philosophy and humor with the letters that belong to us all, translating letters into sculpture.

“The skill and touch of the sculptor can transform any number of materials into awakening shapes and forms that lure light and shadow across varied surfaces. Julia Vance’s sculpture adds another distinctive flair by transforming traditional calligraphy, normally considered a two dimentional presentation of lettershapes, into blocks and forms more familiar to Isamu Noguchi and Jean Arp.” (John B. Hightower, Former Director, Museum of Modern Art, New York City)

Julia Vance works in Pietrasanta (Italy) and Oslo (Norway).
