Jamie Clarke

Known for creating expressive typefaces and lettering that is often woven into detailed illustrations and patterns, Jamie Clarke is a type designer and lettering artist who bridges these two disciplines.

After a career in web design and running his London design agency for a decade, Jamie retrained in Type Design at Reading University in 2013. His typefaces owe their uniqueness to their direct link with his lettering and illustration work. Each typeface can be traced back to a particular project where a specific style of lettering was required to complement an illustration.

Jamie’s notable typefaces include Rig Shaded, which won the Graphis Platinum Award in 2019, and the Span typeface, prominently featured in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast The Musical, and the 70th edition of Casino Royale. Brands such as Penguin Random House, The Folio Society, and The Royal Mint have commissioned his lettering and illustration work, while Jamie has designed custom fonts for Collins, Disney+, Alphablocks, and Essity.
