Andy Altmann

I graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1987 and immediately formed the multi disciplinary design group Why Not Associates with fellow students David Ellis and Howard Greenhalgh.

For over 33 years at Why Not Associates I worked on projects ranging from exhibition design to postage stamps via advertising, publishing, television titles, commercials, corporate identity and large scale public art. All of my work is bound by a fundamental love of typography, research and experimentation. I have been lucky enough to give numerous lectures about many of the projects I have been involved in all around the world – from Siberia to Japan via Manchester! In 2020 we decided to close Why Not Associates in order to work on more personal projects.

My first solo project was to design and write ‘tat*’ – a book that documents my collection and love of graphic ephemera, full details here.
